Escaping The Captivity of Negativity

Online success and failure are fundamentally the same. The path to residual income in one that can be perilous before it becomes enjoyable and profitableYou go through the same processes to reach both points in your journey. You can plan, you can prepare, you can do what you're told and follow every process and system to the letter but if you haven't got the positive frame of mind you need to succeed you never will.

People often speak of following a life path, of making a succession of choices in order to reach where they want to be at a certain time. A friend of mine always said that he wanted to earn an annual wage as many thousand pounds as his age. So at 25 he wanted to be earning £25,000 a year. These days he is very secretive about his wage but I'm pretty sure he has surpassed his targets and unless he takes on a Benjamin Button type existence some time soon I'm pretty sure he'll continue to meet and exceed his own targets.

The life path doesn't always work for everyone and some people - myself included - would rather tread a path that's totally different from the "expectations" of society, your family and friends and your peers. I have always had an expectation within my own mind to meet and exceed my own goals. Hey, it may have taken me a few more years and a few more failures along the way than everyone else but I think that's often the best way to go. I have spent a lot more money than I probably should have on learning how to not do things and have spent a lot more time than I should have learning who and what to not put my trust in. Fundamentally though I have always been learning.

I am not a guru and am by no means am I an expert in anything (though I do grill a mean steak!!) but I feel I do have a level of positivity that takes me through life and prepares me to be ready for challenges and to overcome obstacles. Funnily enough I have taken a mantra from a line from the US hit TV show 'Prison Break' and it has been something that I keep in the forefront of my mind on a daily basis - for both my business and personal life. It was a line quoted by 'T-Bag,' (far from a role model by any means but at a time when he was assuming the identity of a life/business coach type specialist) and it was a simple yet forthright and inspiring instruction, "Don't allow yourself to be consumed by the captivity of negativity."

Fail to Prepare, Prepare to Fail..

See Above!!!
There are a plethora of cliches, sayings and expert "pearls of wisdom" that can be called upon when explaining success, or indeed failure, in business and in the quest to reach your Money Utopia. I think the one that rings true the most with me, especially in the early stages of trying to get a business up and running, whether it be online or offline is, "Fail to prepare, prepare to fail."

This is a simple, yet fundamental piece of advice when launching any new venture and can also be applied to most everyday actions that will play a part in the ongoing success of your business.

Launching headlong and headstrong into a new business (when the enthusiasm and excitiment is controlling you!!) can often lead to basic mistakes being made, opportunities being missed and early customer relationships being destroyed or damaged.

The foundations of your business need to be strong and rigid, yet flexible and ready to quickly and efficiently embrace change. Day 1 of your business - from your customers point of view - shouldn't happen until you can confidently say this.  The systems that will serve you and your customers need to be fine tuned, streamlined and working like a dream before you open your doors, make your first sale or even upload your sales website. It is much easier to test and tweek your business before launch or else valuable time selling and dealing with customers when you do eventually launch is sacrificed.

So my advice is to plan carefully. Make lists, make lists about lists, make checklists and check your lists. Make dummy runs of your sales processes, be a "customer" and fine tune your customer service and communication. Organisation and planning early on will instill good habits and getting the 'boring' parts of the everyday aspects of your business running smoothly will allow your enthusiasm and drive to take you forwards and create a long term, sustainable and profitable business.

If in doubt always remember the wise old saying from the lips of Mr Thomas Alva Edison...

"Sucess is 10 percent inspiration and 90 percent perspiration."

....you can't argue with that now can you!!!

Chasing the Income Rainbow

Chasing Income Rainbows
When Eva Cassidy started singing about rainbows and the land somewhere over it she can hardly have though that her lyrics would inspire people for years to come. Moreover, I'm pretty sure that her musical mentions of lemon drops and chimney tops where not meant to positively provoke the thoughts and minds of business men and women and entrepreneurs on a global scale. I do however take inspiration from one of the other lines "...and the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true." I guess my point is that it helps to have something that you are inspired by, something to push and drive you each and every day to make that extra contribution that will take your business to the next level, help to relaise those residual income opportunities and ultimately make your dreams come true.

Its good to have a dream, an agenda, a target and to be really focused to try and make the dreams a reality. Whether its going the extra mile to really give a new customer (or potential customer) a once in a life time buying experience or finding a product that really helps to drive your profits forwards. We are all in a position to make decisions that effect us every day and many of us our also in the position that our decisions effect other people too. My daughter drives me - not literally she's only 15 months old - she is the pot of gold at the end of my rainbow. That may be cheesey and perhaps a little soppy and predictable or cliché but I don't care, but everything I do, I do ultimately for her and to build a happy and fulfilling family life for us.

I am a great believer in building a personal relationship that operates in tandem with a business one. The personal touch can be the Midas touch in terms of your business. Building a long lasting relationship of trust and integrity is just as important, in my humble opinion, as the quality of the actual product or service you are actually selling. A sustainable business, even more so for an online business, is built on a loyal, trusting and returning customer base. Your customer base is also a massive free marketing tool. Word of mouth is a massively powerful and incredibly efficient way of spreading the word about your business. The danger lies here in the fact that the average customer - such is human nature - is more willing sometimes to share a negative experience than they are to share a positive one. Just another reason to get the fundamentals right and remember that your customer has the power to make and break you!

Quickly back to Eva's song to help me conclude. The rainbow that she is singing about is created by both sunshine and rain. The perceived positives and the negatives of the weather working together to produce a thing of beauty. It's important to get the balance right in business too. Work through the hard times, the black clouds and the occasional downpours, strive to succeed and the sunshine at the end of it will help to make your dreams come true. Now, go and chase your rainbow and hopefully you won't have that song in your head for the rest of the day.
